DIY Headboard

Do you love antique looking things as much as I do? I adore anything vintage & that shows age.

There was no exception when it came to thinking of a new headboard.

Barn wood type headboardThe bedroom suite my husband & I have is one my grandparents bought me when I was 13 years old. It was gently used at the time for about 8 years. So our bedroom suite is 21 years old! Nearly as old as I am! It’s still in okay condition overall, but our bed frame/headboard was in terrible condition.

It was one of the headboards that had shelves on the sides and lights on each side.

You can imagine what kind of abuse this headboard got as a teenager. Friends would come over and we’d paint our nails, hence the nail polish all over the base. We would set our drinks up there & they would sweat so there were water swell spots on it.

Not a pretty sight.

Especially not for a couple who had been married for nearly 8 years. It was time for a change. We didn’t want a new bedroom suite. Maybe later on down the road, but for right now we are pretty content on the furniture we have.

So we decided to make our own headboard.

I am so glad we did.

We purchased this wood at Lowes for somewhere around the range of $25. Not bad at all!

We placed the wood on the wall and nailed into studs. Super simple! We kept the metal bed frame so our bed would sit off the floor.

I still would like to add our monogram to the center 🙂

How would this stylish barn wood look for your headboard?
