One in a Minion Birthday Party!

We love those little yellow creatures that talk in crazy languages.

You know, The Minions.

Two years ago we discovered these little creatures and began watching their movies over and over and over.

We couldn’t get enough of them and I could seriously quote half the movie!!

When it was close to our sons 5th birthday, we decided to go with a Minion Birthday Party, what else would we have done!? Besides, he had dressed up as the cutest Minion we’d ever seen that Halloween so it fit!

THE INVITES

Minion Birthday Party Ideas

We are animal lovers. So for his birthday party, Hunter wanted to donate dog and cat food to the local animal shelter instead of get presents.

He did this the year before and just loved it!

Birthday

The Halloween before his party he was a minion, so I used his picture from Halloween to add to the invites.

They were so cute!!

THE DÉCOR

I love decorating for a party. A lot of the time I will scour Pinterest trying to find ideas. What typically ends up happening is I’ll take one idea and tweak it a little to turn it into my own creation.

Minion Birthday Party Ideas

I printed out lots of cute little minion faces for the party. One of the things I used them on was purple and yellow cups. On the purple cups I made evil minions and on the yellow cups I made the regular silly minions.

Balloons, I LOVE balloons! We had 50 balloons and I put faces on the yellow and purple ones. I love balloons because they not only are decoration, but they are super awesome party favors! The kids love selecting their own balloon to take home.

I bought a party pack online for cheap that had table cloths, a banner, party blowers, plates, and party hats in it. At the time, minion themed items were not common. There certainly weren’t any in the stores so I purchased them on Amazon using a gift card I received from taking surveys online.

Originally I had the idea of using coke bottles as bowling pins and letting the kids bowl. I thought this would be too hectic since we typically have around 40-50 people who come to his parties. Instead I used them as table decorations. I spray painted the bottom of them blue and the tops yellow and put Minion faces on them. They turned out so cute! After the party I let the kids take Nerf guns and shoot them.

Streamers are awesome. It’s cheap and you can make it cute. Around all the door frames I twisted yellow and blue streamer to dress it up. Also behind the party favor table I twisted yellow and blue streamer to make a cute backdrop.

We have a ton of Minion themed stuff. The cutest is a huge stuffed Minion we got from Dollywood the Summer before. We have talking minions, minion hats, minion shoes, everything! I used them to set all over the house for decoration. Best part, it didn’t cost a dime!

PARTY FAVORS

My favorite part!!

Minion Birthday Party Ideas

I set up a “Make your own goody bag” table & it was a hit! The kids loved it.

I bought yellow paper bags from the Dollar Tree. I got two for $1. Not too bad. I printed out minion faces, again see a trend here? I glued the minion faces to the bags and voila, custom party bags.

I bought little toy guns and printed out a label that said “Jelly Blasters”. I didn’t think the kids would play with them that much because they were so small. Boy was I wrong. The kids loved putting water in them and squirting them at each other around the house.

Party City sells some cute toy glasses that make awesome “Minion goggles”.

I bought Minion stickers and tattoos online and printed a label for them too!

Minion straws and Minion gummies were a must! I saw them and couldn’t resist!! I bought banana flavored Twinkies and printed out some cute little designs and made them “Banana Flavored Minions”. SUPER BIG HIT!

BUBBLES!!!

Minion Birthday Party Ideas

What kid doesn’t like bubbles? I bought probably 5 packs of bubbles just to get the yellow ones out, LOL. I made a few different labels, but most of them said something like “Thank you for coming to Hunter’s 5th Party. You’re one in a Minion!” & “Thanks for coming to Hunter’s despicable 5th Birthday Party. You’re one in a Minion”.

Gru’s Jams & Jellies!

Minion Birthday Party Ideas

This was a crazy but cute idea. So in the 2nd movie Gru turned his life around. He wasn’t an evil villain anymore, he was perfecting his Jams & Jellies line. I bought some containers from dollar store and put grape jelly in them. I found a picture of the logo they used on the movie and photoshop’d it to make my own sign. Everybody loved this idea because it was original, and crazy! Who gives jelly as a party favor?

THE CAKE

My sweet friend makes all of Hunter’s birthday cakes. This was the first one she ever made for us and it was SO good & cute!! Sometimes the simple cakes are the cutest!

HIS SHIRT

Minion Birthday Party Ideas

So if you read some of my other posts, I am a shirt fanatic. Hunter has shirts for every holiday, event, and season. I usually buy these from Etsy, but I’m hoping to buy my own embroidery machine this year and open up my vinyl & decal business to embroidery as well!

THE FOOD

My other favorite part. We’re Southern and Baptist so food and tons of it is a must.

My grandmother made her homemade Chili, which goes a long way! My mother-in-law & I made party food to go along. Sausage balls, pigs in blanket, & Rotel dip.

I made cupcakes. I bought white icing and used blue food coloring to make a light blue color. I then took Twinkies and halved them. I placed the Twinkies on the cupcakes and decorated them with faces and eyes. You can buy eyes at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. These were super cute!

AGNES CATERPILLARS!

Minion Birthday Party Ideas

These were so cute!! I bought a big container of Cheese Puffs and made a super cute sign. I photoshopped Agnes and printed it out. Turned out super cute! This is one of my post popular pins on Pinterest! See it here.

Minion Oreo Truffles.

Birthday Party

I love making Oreo Truffles. It’s easy. It’s quick. End of story. Not really, lol. To make one batch finely chop a container of Oreos. Hand mix one cream cheese block (I use Breakstones) with the crushed Oreos. Refridgerate for 1 hour. After 1 hour roll the mixture into 1” balls then dip in melted chocolate or colored candy melts.Simple but oh so yummy!

Robot Cookies

Minion BirthdayParty Ideas

These didn’t turn out as cute as I had planned. I couldn’t find anything for the tops since I waited til the last day to decide to do this. I used an icing lid and I really should have spraypainted it, but time wasn’t on my side. I used black icing and added a red dot for the eye. I then used paper clips for the legs. These actually worked out perfectly because I could put them where I wanted. Of course then I made a cute sign 😉

In another post, , I said I craft to keep my mind off things. I get very emotional when a major event comes up for Hunter. From birthdays, to kindergarten, to another Christmas, it all gets to me. I become a basket case. Working on parties and crafting helps me cope with the sadness of my baby growing up. I also love making his childhood memorable. When he grows up I want him to look back and say “Wow, I had a magical childhood!. I hope to inspire others to create the same childhood for their little ones. Remember, they’re not little for long.

Please comment & let me know what was your favorite about Hunter’s One in a Minion 5th Birthday Party! If you’ve used one of these ideas for your little ones birthday party, let me know! I’d love to hear about it.
